Key Stage 1 and 2

The National Curriculum is an important element of the whole school curriculum and sets out all statutory subjects that need to be taught. We adhere to the National Curriculum for England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and children also study Spanish language and humanities, becoming true, fluent bilingual students.

This curriculum emphasises a child-centred, instructional approach in the acquisition of key skills: Communication, Application of number, Information Technology, Working with others, Improving own learning and Performance, and Problem solving. Our dedicated teachers use methods that are not only informative, but fun and memorable.

Core subjects are: English/Literacy, Mathematics, Science and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Children also study the following subjects as part of the National Curriculum. These are called foundation subjects: Design and Technology, History, Geography, Music, Art and Design, Physical Education, and Citizenship. In addition to this, children are formally taught Spanish from Year 1.

Children are taught through a topic-based approach which allows teachers to cover a broader range of subjects and skills by teaching more than one subject at once and sustain children's interest and motivation through a prolonged focus.

Within the Primary School, students are encouraged to learn both practically and academically and all work is monitored to ensure that students are making the desired progress.

Children have the opportunity to learn through ICT in the classroom, the Library and an ICT suite.

Assemblies are an important part of the school week, when we meet together as a school. It is a time when we place emphasis on the development of values and attitudes towards each other and the world around us.
