Business Studies
GCSE
This qualification would be useful to anyone interested in achieving a future position of responsibility in any business organisation. Course topics are based on important elements in successful businesses, such as Management, Marketing, Production and Personnel.
There is no coursework and no Core Level, so students have access to the full range of grades from two final written exams.
A good grade proves students have the English and Maths skills for the world of work or for further academic study (at A Level). Students are equally prepared to start their own business.
A Level
Minimum requirements: Whilst a good grade at IGCSE is an advantage, conscientious students have achieved A and B grades at A level without having previously studied IGCSE Business Studies.
This subject has been offered successfully at IBYS for the past 12 years, with many students going on to study Business at top universities. It is also a useful A level choice for students who may go into management after university.
A significant part of the course involves the case studies of real business problems, and essay writing becomes more important at A level.
Students can follow the one year AS level course, or follow a staged assessment route to A level by taking the AS qualification at the end of Year 12 and, subject to satisfactory performance, continue to take the final examinations at the end of Year 13.
